Leo's wax statue set for makeover

A new waxwork model of Hollywood heartthrob Leonardo Di Caprio has been unveiled at London's Madame Tussauds on Thursday.

The decision to revisit the Di Caprio model was made by Madame Tussauds as a result of resurgence in on-screen work by the American actor/director.

"I think we wanted to update him because he is entering a new phase of his career. He has got four major films out next year, one with Kate Winslet I believe so there may be some chemistry like with Titanic.

"He has got a massive documentary in America at the moment on environmental issues, The Eleventh Hour, and we just felt it was time to update the figure again," said Ben Lovett of Madame Tussauds.

"The last time we had him in the attraction which was 2001, it was off the back of Gangs of New York and Titanic, that is a few years, so we wanted a funky new suit for him, update the hair as you say and the face, and we are really pleased as we think it looks really really good," he added.

The Titanic star first made his Madame Tussauds debut back in 2001, but this original model has since moved from the London Blush room to go on tour to some of the many other Madam Tussauds attractions around the world.

"We have got sister attractions around the world in America Europe and Asia, and more often than not as what happened with the original version of Leo, they will be here for a number of years because they are very very popular.

"Then other sister attractions want to get a piece of them as well because fans over there want to get to see them. So they will often go on loan to New York or Las Vegas or even Shanghai for example," said Ben Lovett.

The new and improved Leonardo Di Caprio model joins the likes of Kiera Knightly, Madonna, Tom Cruise and Bollywood's Shahrukh Khan, all imortalised in wax in the attractions Blush and Premiere Nights rooms.
